7.4 – čekat ‘to wait’

There are going to be instances where you need to wait for someone, so you’ll need the verb čekat ‘to wait’. Of course we’re usually waiting for someone or something, so we’ll typically say čekat na něco/někoho ‘to wait for someone/something’. As you can see, čekat na is followed by the accusative case. In this way, it is a lot like dívat se ‘to watch, look at’ or koukat (se) ‘to watch, look at’.

Na co čekáte? – What are you waiting for?

Pavel čeká na kamaráda.

Nikdo nečeká na autobus.

Karel čekal na manželku.

Náš pejsek čeká na jídlo.
