1.10 – Possessive Pronouns – Plural Forms

We already learned the forms of the possessive pronouns in the singular. Now we will learn the plural forms of the possessive pronouns. Whenever you modify a noun that is plural, you will have to use the plural form of the possessive pronoun. These forms are given in the chart below:

***Notice that the forms for masculine INanimate, feminine, and neuter are all the same in the plural, only the animate forms differ from them (MA moji, tvoji, naši, vaši instead of moje, tvoje, naše, vaše for MI, F, N.***

In order to make můj kamarád ‘my friend’ plural, i.e. ‘my friends’, you will not only make the word kamarád plural, but also use the plural form of the possessive pronoun. The plural form will be moji kamarádi ‘my friends’. The plural of vaše kniha ‘your book’ will be vaše knihy ‘your books’.

tvoje kočky jsou velmi velké

your cats are very big

naše auta jsou stará

our cars are old

3rd person possessive jeho, její and jejich do not change their forms regardless of what gender the noun that follows is in and whether it’s singular or plural.

jeho profesoři jsou inteligentní

his professors are intelligent

jeho věci jsou tady

his things are here

její kamarádi jsou Američané

her friends are Americans

její otázky jsou dobré

her questions are good
